Of all the industrial fence that I have installed we always used pressed steel or cast railend cups with a hole in them for the excess truss rod to go through and into the brace rail and put the tensioner at the bottom of the 3"-4" terminal post. That way that ugly bend is not exposed and visible and it is practically impossible for the bend to come undone. Also I like for my T-handle to have a slots in it rather than holes (fabricated from SS40 pipe of course). Makes it easier to remove from the wire you are tightening, especially barbed wire.

Thanks for this really clear and instructive video ! I have one doubt : if you tense a wire only on one side of the fence wouldn't it curve the fence to that side ? Should it have one wire on esch side ?

Well I know I'm about a year late but I would like to answer your question in the video about the welded diagonals in the gate. You said you wanted credentials, so I guess I can go ahead and give you mine, since the age of 15 I've been in construction. I was a field guy that worked my way up. All the way to project management, and became a quality control manager for Army Corps of Engineers special and medical command projects. While I am not an engineer, I have extensive experience working with engineers, negotiating variances creating my own drawings through shop and RFI process approvals and arguing with them at the federal level. That said, while the rigidity of the metal may be enough to compensate for the downward force should you flip the gate over it may not be ideal. You have to consider where the majority of the doward force rest in the gate. In the gate that you pictured that would be from the very top where you close that gate. Those diagonals and their direction might not appear to be significant, but those few extra feet to support far top corners can make a huge difference, that is why that same pattern is repeated throughout the gate as it's cantilevered. I'm sure you already know, especially when it comes to a wooden gate.... But in that metal gated instance, would it work? Yes. The rigidity of the metal could compensate for it. Is it ideal for weight distribution and to bring down the center of gravity toward the lower part of the fastened side? No. The direction the diagonal supports face is something considered all the time in engineering and I'm surprised that there is a debate about it in the fencing world. Each diagonal serves its own purpose, like an upside down V for loads that go directly above... In fact, you can think of it this way if you had to stand on the top corner of that fence where it latches , which way would you want the diagonal to be facing? Anyway good video, I was actually watching you guys's channel because I'm trying to decide on what fence I'm going to install in my house. I was looking for some good options for a wooden privacy fence. You guys are pretty far away from me though. I really enjoyed that no dig fence video and thought that that was an absolutely ingenious idea. I must admit though, I am a little skeptical about the gate areas, just a little...lol... Part of me would still want to put concrete down in those areas. I also love how you guys get those young men out there and teach them, that is so important and there is such a shortage of that today. Anyway, great work, great channel. I've made this comment long enough, any longer and I'd have to write you an email.

Using hose cramps and exotic fasteners , and whatever that green metal chit for long runs of "field fence" ?🤔 Unlimited budget I guess. I just set wood posts in concrete for any gates then you run those metal stakes for the run. No "leveling" about it. If you want "level", then you drill post holes and set those metal stakes in concrete , though wood be better and more "aesthetic". and cheaper. The real difference here, seems to be a contractors(YT Poster) viewpoint for profit vs a land-owners viewpoint, and what money is involved. My own view, as a former fence contractor , looks like you would be/are wasting labor time , besides extra cost in materials , to build a simple steel post field fence. And know how to wear some dam gloves, if you do this all day. ;) , 😎

Sooo... all the things he said SOUNDS good to people that don't know better and they'll SWEAR it's how to do it. Flat Earth logic. You can read this nonsense throughout these videos "my daddy did it this way for 30 years.. blah blah freaking blah." Reality is- no additives, just good compaction. There is no Colonel Saunders 13 special herbs and spices recipe that makes it work and all else fail. I only found cement helped when I put vinyl posts in soft sugar sand in Florida and tropical storm winds could slip those smooth privacy posts with 6 foot solid panels up out of the sand. Most people just want to have the "secret" that works and makes them look smart.

I recently pulled a wooden fence, and every single one of those 4x4 posts came clean out of the concrete. So it does happen, and there is some validity to the “screw/nail” method. It might matter where you’re working, and how hard the surrounding soil/rock sucks onto the concrete.

Stupid no reason to do screws. Do not have concrete under wood posts for drainage. If you encase wood posts in concrete you will have wood rot. This guy's sucks!!!!! Ultimately you should bell the bottom of your holes all the time. This guy is full of s__t. Just dig your holes at eight Inch diameter bell the bottom and leave 4'' of dirt at the bottom and mud it. Post done!!!
